hot running

Post by bigbob » Sat Jan 16, 2010 2:45 pm

Mine was from a Fiesta, as it was cheap & compact. Make sure its a clockwise running alternator. My simplified installation ran for years with no problems.

Hi Bigbob,

Very nice simple installation. For a reference, do you remember what year the Fiesta was? I also noticed that you don't have any spacer between the head and the rear alternator bracket. Looks like a perfect spacing :) .

Thanks, Robin.

Thanks Guys. I got one today from the wreckers. It's off a 4.1L XF Falcon. Looks as though I will be able to mount it the same as Bigbobs.
Now I have to figure out how to rewire it :? . Anyone can chime in here, please.

Hi
To put it very simply, the two large terminal's go straight to battery, the small one to ignition light.
You can use the wire you have from voltage reg, but best to make up new. Get youself an allternator wiring repair block,[very cheap] and correct size wire, make up two lengh's of the larger wire, to go from rear of alternator larger terminals and join them to the main battery feed at the voltage regulator, disconect at the regulator the feed that went to dynamo, you can then leave it in place,to convert back if you wish. Then join the small terminal at alternator to the ignition light, this feed is allso on the old voltage regulator. Remember you are NOT! using the old voltage reg, just using it to join the wires.
If your not sure what you doing, it may be best to get a sparky on it, cos if it catches fire after you have converted it. It's not my fault.
Good luck Harry
