Hello gentleman,

I have just joined this truly wonderful site. I currently own a 1966 MK1A Tiger that I purchased approximately two years ago. The car has never been restored and still maintains its original midnight blue paint as well as its body coloured hardtop and original interior. Most unfortunately the original 260 engine was removed in the early 1980s and replaced with a 289 complete with hipo block, cam, solid lifters and a 4 barrel Holley. Its a lovely engine, but I would have loved to have the original engine. The car has travelled extensively having spent time in Denmark, Johannesburg as well as three different regions of the United States. It still has a lovely Sunbeam Tiger club of South Africa badge. As my parents are both from South Africa the car was a perfect acquisition! I am the 6th owner. It has proved an absolutely fantastic car and has completed a 1000 mile rally as well as numerous other minor events. Its rarity also makes it a joy as people really enjoy the fact that such a small car can make such a wonderful noise!

Most glad to join!

Hi Hans and welcome to the club mate.

Your car sounds great and it has certainly got around.
Was it built in the UK or is it a SA car?

It would be great to see some pics of it.

Cheers, Martin.

Hans,

Welcome to the STOC forum.

Don't lose any sleep about not having the original 260 engine. A great number of Tigers are currently running 289s or 302s (both standard and stroked). Personally I think that a good 289 or 302 adds considerably to the pleasure of driving a Tiger.

Welcome Hans, I agree with V8 burble about the 289-302, but it would be nice to have the original 260 sitting in the shed. Still, not having the original engine does not seem to hurt value to much.

Happy Tigering.

I happen to have a redundant 260 in my garage with inlet manifold & bell housing. Needs rebuild. Open to offers.
