Zinc content in engine oil
Whilst recently discussing my engine rebuild with the guys at Real Steel I asked what oil they suggest I should use when the motor is rebuilt. They told me that I need to use an oil with a high zinc content, or add zinc to my oil. I've been using Valvoline VR1 20/50 mineral oil. Apparently this does...

Front Springs
I've recently stripped down the crossmember and on inspection found that my front coil springs are 10" tall (9 coils) where a standard Tiger spring should be 12.04". Also the rubber buffer "donuts" are missing. This means my Tiger is riding 2.5" lower that a standard car at the front. (It also has a...

According to the MSA regulations: “the sound test shall be conducted as set out within these regulations with the engine running at 3/4 maximum speed, the sound level meter at a height of 0.5 metres above the ground (± 0.1 metre) located at 45° to and 0.5 metres distant from the exhaust”. That way t...

Whilst I'm not saying you should do this now. When I used to rally back in the 70/80's if a car failed scrutineering due to a noisy exhaust we used to shove brillo pads up the tailpipe. Marshals had to be careful on the event as the pads often shot out of the exhaust pipe when the car passed. Ahh th...

Hi Guys The block had already been bored to .030", there was some wear to the bores so it was honed out the other .010" and thankfully has cleaned up. It's the valve guides I'm having machined incidentally not the valve stems. I'll check about the clearance with the pistons as I am using flat topper...

The block and heads have been sent away to be machined, block has been honed to .040" and decked. Crank and heads are still to be worked on. I'm fitting ARP bolts to the conrods and new pistons/rings/bearings. Will change the 289 cam for an Edelbrock Performer. Will have new pushrods/rockers (roller...

A bit of mountain road trivia. The Turini at 1607m (ranked at 231st), is a bit of a tiddler compared to other climbs in Europe. As the Monte Carlo Rally was held in January the big alpine climbs used on the Tour de France cycle race couldn't be used as they are impassable other than the summer month...

Engine rebuild
Over the past two years my Tiger has progressively used more oil. On the Schloss Dyck trip to Germany I had to top up twice. Also the oil pressure used to drop alarmingly when the oil level dropped, then was strong again on refill. In October I took off the heads with the engine in place. This revea...

260 - larger capacity sump
I'm looking to fit a high volume oil pump. Real Steel state that a high volume oil pump may require the use of a higher capacity sump and windage tray. (I've got a heavy duty drive shaft). Any comments in relation to a 260 engined Tiger? Does the standard 5qt sump work, if not what larger capacity s...
