Hi Martin
Your car has had the correct repair done as per the Rootes bulletin. Note the tabs on the plate.

Thanks for that chaps.

It seems the car has had a repair done "back in the day".

A very kind gentleman named Thomas from Germany has sent me the Rootes bulletin to show how the repair work should be completed. The plate on my car is very similar.

Mystery solved! :D

Panhard rod mounting?

Could anyone please tell me if the pahard rod mounting bracket on a mk1 was welded directly to the chassis or onto a plate first which was then welded to the chassis.

I need to know if mine has had a crude repair or is it just Jensens handywork :P

Many thanks

If the car is a genuine alpine v8 I would get some rear hubs made correct 108PCD (4.25").

If it is a car you are converting for your own pleasure it is easier to re- drill the front hubs to match the Scimitar rear axle 114.3PCD (4.50"). The hubs are cast steel and very strong.

I just cut the holes for the clutch and brake cylinders when I converted my old lhd mk1a. If you use a mechanical throttle linkage you will need to drill a hole for that. I didnt bother as I used a cable and think it went through an existing hole but not sure as it was 15 years ago? :?

If somone get s a nice rust free tiger shell, welds the alpine tunnel, braces and radiator support panel in, swaps in an alpine driveline and then puts the alpines VIN and SAL tags on it.. is the car an Alpine or a Tiger? 100% Alpine obviously. Other than the extra mounting threads for a tiger what...

My E Type had a brand new body from Martin Robeys and never went down the line at Jaguars. It was still an E Type and sold for top money. No one in any of the Jag clubs viewed it as a fake and most wished their cars had such a good shell :)
