Intake Manifold Removal.

The WSM says to lower the engine at the rear to enable the rear manifold bolt to be removed. This is not necessary, as the manifold can be removed by leaving the bolt in place. Just unscrew it enough to release it from the threads in the head. Then remove all the other bolts and tilt the manifold to...

Your engine may be set up to run on high octane fuel, ie it might have high compression, and/or ignition is well advanced. But using low octane usually causes pinking, rather than misfiring. You may have got some contamination in the fuel. There was a case in point recently with poor supermarket fue...

Well it turns out that there was nothing missing. The speedo cable inner is too short to reach into the drive gear. It should protrude about 2 inches from the end. Will get a replacement sent soon. The threaded bit allows you to pull out the drive gear by inserting a 3/8 inch unf bolt. Clever eh? (t...

Speedometer Cable

I took off my speedo cable, and when I came to connect the new one, I noticed that the gearbox does not have a square drive receptacle for the cable inner to fit into. Instead there is just a threaded hole about 2cm deep and approx. 5mm diameter. I suspect something has dropped out as it was working...

As nice as it was to see the Sunbeam in the mag, I think it is misleading of the article to suggest that converting an Alpine intro an Alger is a Meccano like job (straightforward with the right parts!). Anyone taking their advice would be in for a shock I think. Not too difficult to do a Ford V6 th...

Michael, if it survives a track day, it sounds to me like your cooling system is fine apart from the electric fan, which needs to shift more air. I would try a more efficient/powerful fan. The modern curved bladed ones should be quite good enough.

Castle Coombe, June 17th.

Can anyone shed any light on the Castle Coombe event listed for June 17th? I do not know who to contact to book places. Thanks.

Castle Combe Track Day

I would highly recommend the STOC track day events at Castle Combe. I just got home from my first one. Great value, and great fun. Now all I need is a faster Tiger to show the buzz boxes how good Tigers are!

Hope to see you all at the next one.

Swapping the Autolite 2-barrel and intake manifold for a 4-barrel setup seems to me the first step for more HP. I picked up a Mustang manifold and some used Holleys for peanuts (but haven't fitted them yet). I suspect that getting the Holley optimal may not be so easy though; not sure of the best si...

Car Covers

If anyone is looking for an affordable/budget outdoor cover, I found that my Halfords (Byfleet) stock a Dupont Tyveck medium size cover which fits well. Fine for showers etc, but they dont recommend using in freezing weather (pity).

Based on my knowledge of Alpines (new to Tigers), strictly speaking your local guy will not have the correct procedure, which requires using gap gauges to set the suspension height before checking/setting the alignment. But in my opinion, it should not be that critical for typical classic useage, an...
