robin, in order to plant a chip where only the tac guys would know may not work. did you know that tac inspections are done out in the open where anyone can watch? it's not a secret inspection. i've watched it happen many times. on early alpines the vin number was stamped in the wedge shaped support...

red race tiger, most of what michael mentioned can be replicated or removed with the use of a drill, welder and hammer/dolly. as far as the welds, all it takes is to weld over primer and the welds look right. and you're right about a good body man duplicating anything, especially one that knows the ca...

the best tool to remove a tac sticker might be a piece of duct tape. may not destroy it.

dude, i think you may have seen my current alpine project so why mention anything to me about hiding the value! the value is not something that is a concern of ours since we collect the cars with no intention of ever selling them. the wife and i take great pride in our cars and consider them to be t...

graham, a lot of things are done different here. in the state i live in there are no yearly inspections of any kind. we can license the car for a period of 50 years. and i'm glad you agree i can do what i want. maybe you have seen a car i may have rebodied. whatever the title reads is what it is sol...

robin, believe what you want. the truth rolls down the road in several colors. and a good body man with the knowledge of the cars can do it. i would much rather have a rust free rebody that has been dipped and the rust neutralised than a car that has had 2000 pounds of new metal added with the rust ...

i have a few questions. the potential guidelines for a rebody said something about allowing the owner to switch the engine, etc. is there a law in the uk against swapping engines, etc without government permission?do the cars have to meet strict mechanical and body standards to be driven? does your no...

race tiger, michael's views on a restoration or rebody would probably change if he were to actually do a restoration of a car. by this i mean starting with a basket case and seeing just what is involved to do it right. to properly restore a rusted or bent body is not easy. if a shell sags in certain...

michael,
it wasn't the series 4. it was the series 5 that was rebodied in the MK2 tiger shell. that was in 1995. we cut up the series 3 GT to repair the series 4.[/img]

nobody has clarified why it's such a big deal to rebody a tiger. there are alpine based cars such as the harrington lemans which was also converted by an outside vendor and was the only harrington built alpine conversion that was sold by sunbeam dealers. i never hear anyone complain if a harrington ...

i make that statement because i have seen many bare metal cars over my 40 something years as an owner. there is also an old saying that seeing is believing and having seen the two cars side by side i have seen the differences and i have formed an opinion based on that. did pressed steel leave off th...

robin,
i've made the statement before that a few of you need to see an alpine and a tiger side by side after they have been totally stripped of all paint, primer, etc.
