If somone get s a nice rust free tiger shell, welds the alpine tunnel, braces and radiator support panel in, swaps in an alpine driveline and then puts the alpines VIN and SAL tags on it.. is the car an Alpine or a Tiger?

100% Alpine obviously.

Cut off the pure tiger panels (which isnt much) and what are you left with? An Alpine shell with few dents and 25ish holes. Ow and of course some emotional attachment, in some cases lots.

I reckon it would take one person 8 hours to fit and modify. Less than half that if there were two.

Sorry Red race, I was joking. We see pretty much eye to eye on this. The value of this car is driving this sort of behaviour and I think if TAC was a responsible system it would update its testing criteria. We have both said there should be different groups into which cars should be placed. This one...

Surely your not implying that TAC is encouraging dangerous behaviour?

So what would it be worth when finished? Come to that what would a reshell, restored, original and Alpine V8 be worth if they were all done to the same standard?

Well, that looks easier than a rotisserie. I would have run a tube from where the chasis bolts onto it and out horizontally. This would transfer the weight of the car straight down without a twisting moment when its on its side. At least triangulate the two bars running down from the chasis. Good jo...

Halleluya, are we finally answering my question of when is a rebuild a reshell. If a 75% Alpine can pass as a TAC Tiger, then why not a reshell or rebuild to some acceptable minimum guidelines. Is there light at the end of the tunnel or is it an MGB

I think its as it states a 'reshelled Tiger'. Not an Alpine V8 and I think it should be recognised as such in a TAC, NOT just a TAC failure. That is assuming its been done to an as yet to be known certain standard.

You guess wrong. The point is the judge said "A Bentley Speed Six would, as it seems to us, be a Bentley Speed Six even if it had spent the whole of its life mouldering in a maharaja's garage, and disintegrating there into dilapidation, before being rebuilt."Nothing to do with full disclosure as I p...

Yep, you got it. Of course the one I made is a quarter the size. Personally I find it was miles better than a rotisserie. Seeing what you had rigged up it could be made part of jig to keep the body square with correct pick up points for say spring hangers etc.

Rotisserie alternative

Heres a link for building a rotisserie However I found for me a better way was to build 2 frames that bolted at the front to the suspension subframe bolt holes and the at the rear to the shock mounts. The car would sit about 18" off the ground on a rectangular frame with castors. Heres the clever bi...

Authenticating a Tiger

OK this may be risky and may be censored by a regulator. This is for points that would show the difference between a Tiger and a V8 conversion. It is not a thread to discuss whether a reshell is morally wrong. I would only expect contributions that are already in the public domain and here is a star...

Hi Meadowhog, That was good of you to share your past experience with your kit car. My question to you then as an ex-kit car owner who only saw it as such, why do you want to see Alpine conversions labelled as Tiger's? I'm not trying to make you dislike me all over again, just wondering what has ch...

Well fancy that  You going soft? Don't think I am going to change my mind any time soon. The DVLA proposal I find to be very general and doesn't cover the the differences between the two models. We'll just have to wait and see there. The TAC shouldn't be just for prospective buyers, that is wh...
