Opinions and balls of string

Hi Brad, I can't profer any information regarding the UK based engine builders I'm afraid and in choosing a build spec, you'll no doubt find opinions vary greatly (which in itself seems a particularly strong Tiger-trait...) For what it's worth, I sourced mine from a builder in the States mainly beca...

Finished off the welding of that bit ) However my flux had dried out in the garage, tried to dilute it but it wouldn't tin the panel so looks like i need some more. Brad - thanks for continuing to share photos of your progress with the build. Fantastic seeing the detail and effort taken in fabricat...

Rack and Roll

I've never set eyes on a Stiletto but they are a sweet looking coupé

How did the new rack set up and power steering fare? What's the effect on the dreaded "Get out of my way! I AM trying to turn..." angle been?

Imp-ressive

Hi Mal - great shots and stunning setting.
Is that a set of '86' plates on your Tiger? And out of curiosity, were all of the Imp owners looking for their engines???

I hadn't modified the lines yet in that pic. Those are all factory lines. The one that looks vertical is the return line with a banjo fitting on the end. I cut the pipe short and welded a 90° an fitting to it. The line on the outboard side is the pressure side and yes, it's close to the rail but ju...

MX5 Fitted. Centre of the rack shaft is the same distance from the mounts as the Tiger rack. Just like mine with a mirror image...did you massage ( taper ) the back of the pinion side to help the angle for the steering u-joints?? Nice work on the image Jim - great point of comparison and a good wor...

MX5 rack acquisition

Hi Mal Sorry to hear the RX7's going to be on the large side. I hope you have access to some grey import stock over there. I did some research on reconditioned MX5 racks here and all require a core changeover. The going rate here is around $395AUD for the rack but you get slugged $200 for a core dep...

Column to rack

Hi Mal As usual it looks as though you've started quite the engineering project there! I've often wondered why RHD cars didn't use a different radiator seeing as though you can get a pump that has LH outlet - at least you'll have the unobtaniaum chunk of ally as a momento now... What are you using a...

Column Spline

Hi Mal
I don't have my rack at the ready but the column is 3/4" with a 48 spline. There is also a "D" relief in the shaft acting as a lock approx 1/2" from end of column with a face of approx 1/2"

Let me know if you need any images.

Cheers, Tom

Tom, did you also get the TA stud kit? or is that just the fasteners to hold it in place? cheers Brad Hi Brad, Housing fasteners are part of the kit - stainless unbrakos The stud kit is separate but at around $20 I thought it a worthwhile addition. Great photographic record keeping, & keep up the g...

Like the diff bling, where did you get that? Hiya Brad - thanks for the comments. I picked the diff cover from TA direct, found them very courteous to deal with. The unit's a decent piece of ally and very nicely machined. I liked the idea of the girdle and the drain and fill points. Here's a link t...

A little bit of lead lighting...

Fascinating stuff this lead caper - and only because there seems to be a few lead purists out there! http://stoc.sunbeamtiger.the-fastest.net/HeadLightLead01.jpg Post goop and after a bit of fileage... http://stoc.sunbeamtiger.the-fastest.net/HeadLightLead02.jpg And the offside http://stoc.sunbeamti...

A couple of bonnet update shots

Hiya Folks - just a couple of updated shots of progress on the LAT bonnet in steel. Thought I'd see what life as a small block is like and crawled into the engine bay with the bonnet closed - ostensibly to check clearances. All good. You can see a few small spots in front of the vent from the unders...

Brads right in re-using the lead/solder but it was a lot cheaper when I tried it last. Keep them pics coming I do love what you're doing. Not a bad summer here at all and not boiled her once. You can reuse the lead fillings, sweep them up, run a magent over them for any steel bits, then put them in...

OMG. Your doing what I want to do on my bonnet. How did you get the curve front to back, did you use a shrinker? And the wheel arch is done. What repair section did you use, original from another wing. Did you fill the gaps between the stiches? Looks really straight. Hi Hog, Apologies for delayed r...
