Hi Robin, I would say a switch that lasted 50 years must be a record for longevity  Just curious if during that time you were using silicone brake fluid or not. There is a school of thought out there that the diaphram in these switches deteriorates when silicon fluid is used. Others disagre...

First and foremost many thanks to all who took time to reply and comment. This was certainly not a quest of major importance to the Tiger community. I just ordered a supply of 4BA brass hex full size nuts on ebay.co.uk and a package of 50 should be on its way soon. Hopefully a lifetime supply. If I ...

Not a daft question at all. I have not yet, but was thinking if they are so rare and especially hard to get over here, maybe I should see if I can find a small supply somewhere. Never know when another one might take off on me when messing with something out of the dash. If they are right for the cl...

Smiths clock repair and fixing nut

First a very strong recommendation to anyone seeking an electronic upgrade of a Smiths CE clock. Have a look at www.jaguarclock.com and engage Mike Eck to do the work. He did an excellent job on my clock and his prices are half of what at least one other company in the business charges. And air mail...

Hi Michael, I was just on the Red Line Oil web site and noticed a menu for international distributors. As luck would have it, there is one for Australia, Red Line Oils Pty Ltd, located in Osborne Park, WA. Their web site is redlineoil.com.au. Perhaps they can supply you with their 75W90 GL-4 gear oi...

Michael, Perhaps you missed my post to the Tiger List in the USA about my recommending Red Line MT-90 synthetic gear oil, which is GL-4 rated. It is a SAE75W90 oil. Their web site says it does not have the bad reactive sulfur additives found in most GL-5 oils that attack syncros. Another participant...

Thanks to all for the toploader comments. Not sure I want to tackle the job myself. I found somewhat detailed directions on how to do a rebuild at http://www.mustangmonthly.com/howto/mump_0903_mustang_top_loader_transmission_rebuild/viewall.html Other that the extra time I would spend spent on doing...

Gary, Please educate me on the toploader recommendations. I have a used wide ratio toploader I am going to be putting in soon. I did a quick search on the Tech Tips section of the forum and did not find anything on the breather. What are the issues giving rise to the need for a breather? How would I...

Hi Graham, Thanks for the additional info and links. I am relieved to see I have the correct 4 wrenches for my Mark IA, but am now confused by the presence of Grease Gun. Like the jack brace, it would not fit in the tool roll, so strictly speaking, could not be a part of that "kit". I looked at the ...

65beam, Many thanks for pointing me to the SAOCA site. I found the tech article and pictures. That yellow little plastic tool did look scarily familiar. I went rummaging through my containers of miscellaneous stuff. Lo and behold, I found it in a baggy of stuff I had cleaned out of my console God kn...

I am curious about the missing valve tool. I have the original tool set for my car and I do not recall it ever having such a tool. But of course, there is a lot of of things from 46 years ago that I do not remember all that well. What does it look like? BTW, The hub cap removal tool in mine is ever ...

Just to expand a bit on what Robin has said, I wanted to be sure you were aware that he is referring to the voltage stabilizer/regulator under the dash, not the one in the engine bay. This stabilizer/regulator provides a more or less constant reference 12volts to the temp and petrol gauges. Also, if...

Echoing some of the foregoing recommendations, I think the silicon gasket maker approach is best. Put it on as a thick bead where the cork gasket would go, being extra generous in the corners where the intake meets the heads. Let it set up the recommended time so that it obtains a bit of body to it....

I am pretty sure the stock front springs are different between the Alpine and Tiger. Would make sense with the different engine weights. I believe they are colour coded with a paint dab on the top coil although you cannot see the paint without taking the spring out. I still have the original springs...
