Stuck in forward gear
Hi Rob, presumably you drove the car home from where the clutch was changed? It is more than likely that the linkage is at fault, was the gearbox and engine removed to replace the clutch, perhaps the linkage was disturbed. You can remove the inspection plate on the side of the gearbox tunnel to view t...

Brad, the bellhousing that you have is not a Scatter Shield, but a cast iron 302/351 truck bellhousing.Dual bolt pattern transmission. This iron bellhousing will shatter if the flywheel disintegrates,a true scatter shield is made from ballistic steel. Lakewood are a reputable company for such,althoug...

No Spark
Hi Tom, I assume that you are using a standard Ford distributor with the Pertronix unit inside. If that is the case, can you not refit a set of contacts and condenser unit, gap them and see if you get a spark from the coil lead to distributor. This may help you in your diagnosis,in tracking down the ...

Hi Martin, Girling changed the cyls over from alloy to iron probably due to wear in the cyl,the iron being harder to score and leave a ridge from worn seals and piston.Although they still do wear over time. New Girling iron cyls are still available, from the usual specialist suppliers Regards David.

Martin, the Brake Master cyl push rod that you have, with the altered end ,is from an original type of Master cyl, these were alloy and the push rod was different. The pushrod had an extension on the end, which went into a different style of piston. When changing to the more common iron cyl, to use the...

If you use some of the small cylindrical resonator boxes they can be fitted in the pipe that is under the boot floor.
They do come in a variety of sizes, and are unobtrusive when fitted,if the tips of the original system are left as standard.

Martin,
it does not matter if they sell you an Alpine or Tiger spring, both will be second hand,so the difference in vehicle should not attract a premium.

Martin,
you don't have to buy a new cylinder just to get the spring, they are not of Girling manufacture, best to source a good used item.
Some suppliers may have one spare to sell

Hi Martin, Mal is correct ,that the pedal return springs are the same length. Your Clutch cyl return spring looks like it has suffered from fatigue and the last coil has broken off. Not been cut in any way,the end should be flat to allow the spring to sit on the bulkhead, the other end has the retain...

Rob, to get the fuel flow through the venturis there must be air flow,as you have an accelerator pump working and the throttle blades opening, the engine will increase revs if the fuel flows through the main jets, without weakening the mixture. Did you remove jets during rebuild and did you replace th...

Hi Rob, when you say no fuel is coming from the Venturis,do you mean the accelerator pump nozzles or the boosters in the Venturis proper. If the pump is not working you may have not put the pump linkage back correctly and then the pump will not work, thus the engine will not rev up and will "Bog Down...

Tom, the later Ford timing chain cover, for the 289/302 and water pump have the roughly the same depth from fan to block, you will whatever pump you use have to press the fan pulley hub back down the water pump shaft as all the aftermarket pumps have the hub to far forward. If using the later style wa...

Tom,
it is possible to fit the later 289/302 timing chain cover and iron water pump if you need to.
Aftermarket alloy water pumps also fit these covers.

Hi Lou, do you have a local Pirtek hydraulic hose repair company branch near you, they may be able to help. Failing that you may have to use some Earls/Goodridge Hose and ftgs, use the original cast block banjo and banjo bolt, modify two male/male ftgs and then use AN Ftgs and hose to a new remote filt...
