Pitman...I have just taken out of my Tiger the MG Midget rack that used Dales conversion brackets/tie rod extenders. I've left the MGB longer steering arms in place and fitted one of the new UK re-make Tiger racks made by the Birmingham outfit. Overall imho the driving experience with the Midget rac...

Don't worry, they can only go on one way in order to have the taper for the tie rod end pointing up and still fit their respective spindle carrier. It will be obvious which side they fit when refitted with the brake caliper.

Apart from scouring marks on the inner cups and old dried out grease my big problem was the steering shaft was not straight. As the shaft is cut and welded in 2 places there is plenty of room for a Monday unit to be a bit rough, mine certainly was. The joining and welding of the splined engine bay e...

Been 25 years since I pulled the steering column apart so I had forgotten exactly what the bearing setup looked like. These bearings essentially do very little real work and are not a precision fit, they mostly take care of centralizing the steering shaft and the end thrust. The factory originals lo...

I think I have the same problem of steering col getting stiff after an hour or so.
Anyone have any pointers as to the dis-assembly of the column, is it better to start from top or bottom?

Yes, exactly the one...you can imagine our surprise when we were told to put the old crusty lead back on, never had a problem in years of racing. How many Tiger guys have gone electronic? Any used Mallory's module in a series 27 dissy? The Pertronix people tell me my tach probably won't work with th...

I also dumped the whole lot and got a variable position right-angle adapter
and now use the smaller filter that fits nicely down by the headers, a breeze to change although need to raise the car to get underneath.

Been reading the net on many experiences of Pertronix etc, seems some have had 20 years of no problems and others not so good. Back in late 80's we put Mallory coil, wires, and twin point distributor in our race Tiger. The tach would not read past 3000rpm. Tach checked out on a bench test so we phon...

Had similar noise problem, turned out to be a valve guide slightly too tight after head rebuild and would run fine until full temp and the valve started to hang up in the guide and the piston would give it a nudge to close it, definitely not a nice sound.

Rev Counter Problem

I'm running a Mallory twin point with vac advance, tach reads fine up to 2900rpm and then stops climbing. Anyone know what the problem may be? Have 2 tachs, both do the same I have Bosch Super inductive spiral wound dist lead, someone suggested the problem is the lead and I should use an older carbo...
