Many thanks for all the info. The car is now in for repair as soon as the parts arrive from the UK. I will post the findings as soon as I get them.

I will report result in due course when parts received from the UK and fitted.

The answer to your question is in the post you have replied to.
The engine is now being removed with the probable culprit being debris in the pressure relief valve.
I will report again in due course.

No it only started two or three years ago. A dodgy garage was changing the oil and said that they had had to replace the clutch because it was slipping and was found to be oily. Strangely I had not noticed the defect. The clutch is now being replaced again and I have ordered a fourth replacement oil...

Thanks for that but there are still the oil getting to the clutch and the very high oil pressure which has broken two gauges. I think I am going to have to get the engine stripped down to find the obstruction

Oil pressure gauge not working

I disconnected the gauge and ran the engine to clear any air and collected about 250mltrs before reconnecting gauge. Thanks for that, I will give it a go next Friday when we get back from taking the bumpers etc over to Sicily to be rechromed.Hope it works, not my favourite lying under the dash!
