Tiger Front Cross Member

I spent yesterday afternoon stripping the paint off the cross member of my car. Were these modified for the Tiger by Jensen? I only ask as the quality of welding is much higher than that seen in places such as the transmission tunnel and inner front wings!

Re: Tiger steering rack

Thanks for the useful information 👍. I am currently rebuilding the front suspension of my Tiger, so particularly relevant for me.

Re: Anti-tramp Springs

I would also be interested to hear how these perform; they sound like they could be just the thing for my car.

I had exactly the same problem with my Tiger, manifesting itself as a slow increase in temperature on the motorway (40 miles before the engine started to get too hot). Simply replacing the hose with a silicone one solved the problem- no spring required. I think that the Mustang is more prone to this...

Hub Nut Torque Setting

I've got the hub nut on now after cleaning the thread of the half shaft up with a die nut but cannot find a torque setting for it.
Any clues as to what I should be tightening it up to?
Thanks

Rear Hub Nut Thread

Somehow I've manged to damage the first two threads on one of the rear half shafts. Am I correct in thinking that the thread is 7/8" UNF - 14 threads per inch?

And if so that this will be the correct die nut?

Oil Dip Stick Tube

The dip stick tube on my 6 bolt 289 is in a pretty bad condition and pulls out of the engine (timing cover?) whenever I try and remove the dip stick. It appears to be located into the engine by a nylon tube and this nylon tube is preventing the dip stick from moving freely. Is the dip stick tube uni...

What a fantastic thread - thanks for taking the time to post your updates Brad. I'll be fascinated to hear how much power & torque your engine makes as I'm planning on doing very similar with my 289 in the next year or two. What inlet manifold have you fitted, what air filter are you planning on usi...

There certainly is in a SBF Mustang, but not sure if the Tiger ever had one fitted. A modern silicone hose appears to solves the problem without a spring, on my Tiger at least.

Hi Doug,

On my Tiger I had an overheating problem which was due to the inlet hose into the water pump becoming weak and collapsing when the engine was running at higher revs. Easily checked by watching the inlet hose whilst revving the engine.

Gearbox Noise

There is a rattling/buzzing noise coming from the gearbox of my Tiger. Sometimes it is worse than others, and driving conditions don’t seem to make any difference to the severity; sometimes it‘s bad, sometimes it‘s not. It is also reluctant to engage any forward gears when coming out of reverse, and...
